Favourites, hiding and renaming channels

A big playlist is easier to use when the channels you watch are in one place and the ones you never watch are out of the way. Here is how to do both in NewTV Player, and how to give a channel a name you prefer.

Add a favourite

Favourites work on every device NewTV Player is on.

1

Open a group

Choose Channels, Movies or Series, then a group.

2

Press the star

Every channel and every poster has a star. Press it and it fills in: the title is now a favourite. On a series' own page, the star is in the top bar.

3

Find it again

Favourites is at the top of the list of groups, with the number it holds. Your favourite channels are also in the TV Guide.

To remove a favourite, press its star again. Each playlist keeps its own favourites.

Hide groups you never watch

Hiding, renaming and moving favourites are in the app for Android phones, tablets, Android TV and Fire TV. On other devices you can use favourites, but not these yet.

1

Open the list of groups

In Channels, Movies or Series, press the eye button in the top bar.

2

Choose the groups

The app says Press a group to hide it, or to show it again. Each group shows an eye; a hidden one is dimmed.

3

Finish

Press the eye button again. Hidden groups are gone from the list, and their channels are left out of the lists that mix every group, such as All Channels.

Hide or rename a channel, film or series

1

Open a group

Then press the pencil in the top bar. The app says Press the eye to hide a title or show it again, and the pencil to rename it.

2

Hide

Press the eye beside a title. It stays on screen, dimmed, until you press the pencil in the top bar again; then it is gone from the list.

3

Rename

Press the pencil beside a title and type the new name in the top bar, then press the tick to save it. The player shows your name too. On posters, switch to the list view first with the last button in the top bar.

4

Use the provider's name again

Rename it again and leave the name empty. The app says Leave it empty to use the provider's name again.

Put your favourites in order

Open Favourites and press the pencil in the top bar. Each favourite gets two arrows, Move Up and Move Down, as well as the pencil and the eye. The order you set is kept.

Questions and answers

How do I get a hidden channel back?

Open the same group and press the pencil in the top bar. Hidden titles are shown again, dimmed; press the eye beside one to show it. For a hidden group, press the eye button above the list of groups, then the group.

Does hiding a channel delete it?

No. It is only left out of your lists on this device. Your playlist and your provider's list do not change.

Can I rename a group?

No. Channels, films and series can be renamed; groups keep the names your provider gives them.

Is hiding the same as the parental PIN?

No. Hiding is for tidying up. To keep adult groups locked, use the parental PIN.
