Catch-up TV: watch programmes you missed

Catch-up lets you play a programme after it has been shown, as long as your provider keeps a recording of it. Here is what you need, how to find it in NewTV Player, and why a channel may have nothing to catch up on.

What catch-up is

Some providers record their channels for a few days. Catch-up plays those recordings, so a programme you missed can still be watched from the start. The recordings are kept by your provider, not by the app: NewTV Player shows what is kept and plays it.

What you need

  • An Xtream (XC) login. Catch-up comes from the panel behind the login. A playlist added as a plain M3U link has none, and the app says Catch-up is not available for this playlist. See M3U links and XC logins.
  • A provider that keeps recordings. Not every provider does, and many keep them for only some channels.
  • A programme guide for the channel. Catch-up is chosen from the guide's list of programmes. Read what an EPG is.

How to watch a programme you missed

1

Open Catch-up

On the page that lists your channels, films or series, choose the clock button in the top bar.

2

Choose a category

Your categories are listed the way the TV guide lists them.

3

Choose a channel

Only channels your provider keeps recordings of are shown. Each says how long its recordings are kept, for example 3 Days Kept.

4

Choose the programme

The channel's past programmes are listed with their times. Choose one and it plays from the start.

When there is nothing to catch up on

  • Your provider does not keep recordings of any channel on this playlist. The provider has no catch-up for this login. Only your provider can change that.
  • Your provider lists no programmes for this channel, so there is nothing to catch up on. The channel has recordings but no guide, so there is nothing to choose from.

Questions and answers

Does NewTV Player record programmes?

No. The recordings are kept by your provider. The app shows which ones exist and plays them.

How many days back can I go?

As many as your provider keeps for that channel. The app shows the number next to each channel.

Why does an M3U link have no catch-up?

A plain M3U link is just a list of channels, with no panel behind it to ask for recordings. Use the XC login your provider gives, if there is one.

Can I pause and rewind a catch-up programme?

Yes. A recording plays like a film, with a bar to pause it and move through it.

NewTV Player is a media player only: it comes with no channels, films or playlists. Before you add any content, make sure you have the legal right to watch it.
