What is an EPG, and how to see what is on now and next
EPG means electronic programme guide: the TV guide that comes with a playlist. Here is where it comes from, how NewTV Player shows it, and what to do when it is empty.
Where the guide comes from
The guide is not part of the app. It comes with your playlist, from whoever gives you the playlist (your provider): for each channel, its programmes with their times and a short description. NewTV Player reads it and lays it out for you.
How to see it in NewTV Player
- Now and next: while a channel plays, the app shows what is on and what follows.
- TV guide: a grid of your channels and their programmes, to see what is on across all of them at a glance.
- Catch-up: where your provider keeps recordings, programmes that have already been shown can be played again, and the app says how many days are kept.
With an XC login or an M3U link
With an Xtream (XC) login, the guide comes with the login itself, and NewTV Player asks for the programmes of the channels you are looking at. With an M3U link, the guide is a separate file (XMLTV) that the playlist names. NewTV Player reads that file on Android phones, tablets and Android TV. On other devices the guide is not available for M3U playlists yet, and the app says so plainly.
Why is the guide empty?
- Your provider sends no guide for that channel. The app then says "Your provider sends no programme guide for this channel", and only your provider can add one.
- The times look wrong: check the date, time and time zone in your device's settings.
- It is an M3U playlist on a device other than Android: the guide for M3U playlists is not available there yet.

NewTV Player is a media player only: it comes with no channels, films or playlists. Before you add any content, make sure you have the legal right to watch it.
