How to lock adult categories with a PIN

Many playlists include adult categories. NewTV Player's Parental Control keeps them behind a four-digit PIN, or hides them completely. Here is how to set it up on your TV, box, phone or computer.

What the lock does

NewTV Player reads the names of your playlist's categories. A category your provider names as adult, such as "Adult" or "18+", in many languages, is kept behind the PIN. Its channels, films and series stay out of the lists, the search, the TV guide and catch-up until the PIN is given.

On Android phones, tablets and Android TV, adult categories show until you set a PIN. On some devices, such as Windows PCs, they stay hidden until you set one.

Set your PIN

1

Open Settings

In NewTV Player, open Settings and choose Parental Control.

2

Choose four digits

Type them under Set a 4-digit PIN, then again under Enter the PIN Again, and press Set a 4-digit PIN.

3

Lock it

Parental Control now says Adult Categories Locked. The categories stay open until you press Lock Again or close the app, so press it before you hand over the remote.

Choose digits you will remember. The app never shows the PIN once it is set.

Watch a locked category

  • Among your sections, a tile named Adult Categories Locked shows how many categories are kept back. Choose it.
  • Type the PIN under Enter Your PIN and press Unlock.
  • The categories stay open until you press Lock Again in Parental Control, or close the app. Every time the app is opened again, they are locked again.

Hide them completely

Once a PIN is set, Parental Control offers Hide Adult Categories Completely. Hidden categories do not appear at all, not even with the PIN, and no tile shows that they exist. To see them again, unlock with the PIN and turn the option off.

Remove the PIN

In Parental Control, press Remove PIN. If the categories are locked, type the PIN first. Removing it turns the lock off on that device.

Good to know

  • Each device has its own lock. The PIN is kept on the device where you set it. Set one on every TV, box and phone that children use.
  • It goes by the category's name. If a category does not say in its name that it is adult, the app cannot tell. Look through your lists once after you set the PIN.
  • It is a lock for a household, not a safe. Anyone who can read the device's storage could read the PIN.

Two different PINs

When you add a playlist on the website, you can also tick "Lock this playlist with a PIN". That PIN is a different one: it hides the playlist's details on the website, so nobody can see or change them there without it. The app plays that playlist without asking. Parental Control's PIN is set in the app and locks adult categories. Read more in how to use an Xtream (XC) login.

Questions and answers

Does NewTV Player have parental control?

Yes. Open Settings, then Parental Control, and set a four-digit PIN. Categories your provider names as adult are then kept behind it.

How long does a category stay unlocked?

Until you press Lock Again in Parental Control, or close the app. When the app opens again, the categories are locked again.

Does the PIN work on all my devices?

No. Each device keeps its own PIN. Set one on every device children can use.

Is it the same PIN as the playlist PIN on the website?

No. The website's playlist PIN hides a playlist's details on the website. Parental Control's PIN is set in the app and locks adult categories.

Can I hide adult categories completely?

Yes. Once a PIN is set, choose Hide Adult Categories Completely in Parental Control. They then do not appear at all, not even with the PIN.
